Cromology
Cromology is an assistant in the phone that enables users to map their emotions through colour, fostering a deeper connection between their feelings and daily experiences. Users select a colour that best represents their emotions at different points throughout the day, and these choices are recorded and displayed on a home screen. The screen visualizes their emotional journey over time—whether it’s a day, week, or month—offering a clear and accessible reflection of how they’ve been feeling.
The project originated from a concept called “Conversation with Time,” an exploration into how the passage of time affects our emotional states and mental well-being. As people become increasingly absorbed in their phones, they often lose awareness of their emotional health, leading to a gradual decline in mental clarity and emotional connection. Cromology challenges this, providing users with a moment to pause, assess, and record their feelings in real-time.

This approach is especially impactful as it transitions users from passive phone engagement to active self-awareness, fostering reflection and emotional mindfulness. By tracking emotions through color, Cromology converts abstract feelings into a tangible format, enabling users to more easily identify emotional patterns and proactively address mental health concerns before they intensify.

The development process was user-centered, incorporating feedback from interviews with potential users to understand their relationship with time and emotional care. These insights were critical in shaping the app, highlighting issues around emotional disengagement and revealing opportunities for more mindful time management. Through a series of low-fidelity and digital prototypes, Cromology evolved into a tool that not only helps users become more aware of their emotions but also fosters a healthier connection with their time and mental well-being.
